25 Years of the Work of Mark Edwards

In 1970 Mark Edwards became one of the first photo-journalists to specialise in environment and development photography. In 1990 the United Nations gave Mark a 'Global 500' award in recognition of his work on behalf of the environment: an award shared by prime ministers, scientists, writers, campaigners - and no other photographers.

The pictures he has taken over the past 25 years on assignments in more than 50 countries have illustrated hundreds of books and magazines and have been exhibited in galleries throughout Europe and America. They illustrate the planet's environmental crisis, but they also portray the many positive things ordinary people are doing to respond to that crisis. They show, in ways that words cannot, the urgent need for individuals, industry and governments to make the concept of sustainable human development central to their thinking.
