In 1975, Paul Hill, age 21, received a lifetime sentence for his alleged role in a series of sensationalized British pub bombings. Because there was widespread desire to find a scapegoat for these atrocities, Paul's conviction was bases on implausible confession extracted from him by torture.

He served fifteen years in British prisons, fours years of which where spent in solitary confinement because he continued to maintain his innocence. Pail was finally released due to pressure from Amnesty International and other groups, when it was determined that the investigating officers at his trial had lied. Paul's story is a bitter episode in the ongoing conflict between the British government and the citizen of Northern Ireland.
