THE PLEASANT SURPRISE OF MULTI-TASKING

Another Silicon Graphics attribute that attracts graphic arts professionals to Silicon Studio solutions is multi-tasking. Simply put, multi-tasking means the ability of Silicon Graphics computers to perform many chores at once. This capability provides a powerful competitive edge, letting users concurrently execute several complex tasks in far less time than it would take the most powerful desktop computer. As a pleasant bonus, this also results in accelerating the return on their technology investment.

In some instances, Silicon Graphics systems have been known to process with such speed that surprised new users mistakenly suspect a problem. In one case, staff at an in-house prepress shop for an advertising agency were surprised at the RIP-ping speed and efficiency of their new Challenge M server. Some actually thought the system had lost jobs, when in fact the multiprocessing Challenge M was simply reordering the sequence to maximize productivity; finishing and delivering the smaller jobs first and the large, more intensive jobs shortly thereafter, regardless of the order in which it had been given the tasks. The shop's manager estimated that the Challenge M was reducing RIPping time by over 30 percent.
