Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc.

Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc., began as a social studies club at Cornell University by and for African American males. On December 4, 1906, Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity was founded by seven of the original members of the social studies club. In January 1908, the fraternity was incorporated under the laws of New York state, and was recognized as the first African-American fraternal organization for college men, as well as the first to be incorporated.

Nu Sigma chapter was chartered in March of 1978, making it the first African-American fraternal organization to reach Stanford. The brothers of Nu Sigma chapter have always taken leadership roles on campus and have been involved in a host of activities on the Farm ranging from SBSE to campus vocal performing groups.

Our chapter devotes a substantial amount of time to community service activities as well, by working in East Palo Alto with the Youth Development Center, the Senior Citizens' Center, the Alpha Boys Club and the Youth-in-Government program.

As part of a new generation of African-Americans, we believe our obligation to predecessors who fought on our behalf, is overshadowed only by our responsibility to those who will follow. Nu Sigma looks forward to working with any interested individuals, and wishes everyone a prosperous school year.
