Internet connectivity via a standards-based digital modem that breaks the analog speed barrier
The 3Com Impact(TM) External Digital Modem provides high-speed ISDN access to the Internet over a dial-up link. All-digital ISDN speed allows graphical cruising of the Internet with reduced delays and lower telephone charges.
The 3Com Impact(TM) ISDN External Digital Modem utilizes ISDN service available from the telephone company to transmit at 56 or 64 Kbps--about 25 times faster than 2.4 Kbps modems and at least twice as fast as the latest generation of V.34 modems. With ISDN connections, dial-up Internet users can cruise the World Wide Web and download large files at speeds normally reserved for corporations with expensive leased lines.
Based on industry standards, the 3Com Impact modem is compatible with a wide array of Internet browsers, communications software packages for modems, and Internet Service Provider (ISP) equipment.
Key Benefits:
High-Speed, Reliable Dial-Up Internet Access
* The 3Com Impact external digital modem delivers dial-up Internet access at up to 25 times the speed of analog modems, providing LAN-like response.
* The 3Com Impact modem always connects at the top speed available and maintains that speed for the entire connection--unlike analog modems that deal with line "noise" and often drop to a lower speed in the middle of a connection, or lose the connection entirely.
System Compatibility
* Through the AT command set and IETF Point-to-Point Protocol (PPP), the 3Com Impact modem supports the major Internet browsers.
* 3Com Impact implements V.30 and Async-Sync(TM) PPP conversion, and has been tested for interoperability with ISDN equipment in use at leading ISPs.
* The analog voice port supports existing telephones, fax machines, and answering machines, letting them operate simultaneously with PC data transmission and allowing a home office user to replace several analog lines with a single ISDN line.
Ease of Installation and Use
* To avoid the need for extra equipment, ISDN network termination (NT-1 for the ISDN U interface) is integrated into the 3Com Impact .
* Front panel LEDs and a diagnostic self-test give the user valuable information on ISDN line status and connections.

Analog vs. ISDN Performance
ISDN digital modems are more than twice as fast as the very best V.34 analog modems--and more than 25 times as fast as many analog devices. For Internet users, high-speed ISDN links avoid long delays in finding data resources and downloading files. High-speed transmission saves money, too, by cutting telephone charges.
In fact, ISDN digital modems can be three or four times faster than the best analog products. Digital modems always connect at the top speed available and maintain that speed for the entire connection, while 28.8 Kbps analog modems often drop down to 19.2 or even 14.4 Kbps because of line conditions.
To benefit from high-speed all-digital connections, ask your Internet Service Provider (ISP) about ISDN availability in your location.
Here are ISDN speed improvements:*
Analog Modem 64 Kbps ISDN Speeds, Kbps Modem Advantage 2.4 26.7 times faster 9.6 6.7 times faster 14.4 4.4 times faster 28.8 2.2 times faster
*Data compression increases the effective throughput of both analog and digital modems, so the relative advantage of ISDN stays the same.
