ISDN (Integrated Services Digital Network) is a service offered by Bell Atlantic that enables voice, data, imaging and video to be delivered over existing phone lines. Each ISDN line offers three channels (which can be thought of as three lines in one), two B channels and one D channel (Basic Rate Interface or BRI). Each of the B channels can be used for normal voice telephone service or to connect fax machines, video conferencing equipment, computers, networks and other digital equipment. ISDN lines transmit data much faster than typical dial-up modems. ISDN service from Bell Atlantic is named IntelliLinQ BRI and costs about $20 per month more than existing telephone service (plus usage).
Bell Atlantic IntelliLinQ BRI ISDN service is tariffed and available throughout the Bell Atlantic serving region. ISDN is available as ISDN-Centrex and as Individual Line ISDN. Bell Atlantic Large Business and Federal Systems customers should contact their account executive to get ISDN service. Bell Atlantic small business customers, including home based businesses and telecommuters customers, can get ISDN service by calling the Bell Atlantic ISDN Sales and Technology Center at 1-800-570-ISDN.
Bell Atlantic plans to have residential service available in most areas by fourth quarter 1995. Customers currently wishing to use ISDN for residential purposes may do so by purchasing the service at the business line rate by calling the ISDN Sales and Technology Center at 1-800-570-ISDN.
Bell Atlantic is committed to offer ISDN service to any of its customers who want to purchase it. If the telephone office that serves you does not have ISDN capability, Bell Atlantic will provide ISDN from other network resources at no additional charge to you.
