About Desktop Aero

Desktop Aeronautics offers a variety of software products for use in aerodynamic design and analysis. These programs take advantage of recent advances in desktop computing capabilities to provide useful results with rapid turn-around. Solutions are achieved in a matter of seconds or minutes. This capability permits the user to perform multi-variable and multidisciplinary optimization in which hundreds or thousands of function evaluations are required. The rapid turn-around also allows for more comprehensive trade studies to be performed early in the design process, when time constraints and lack of details normally prohibit more extensive analyses.

These programs are not only designed for speed, but also for ease of use. They take advantage of the interface capabilities of the Apple Macintosh (TM) series of computers. (Several of the programs are also available for the Microsoft Windows operating system.) Inputs can be changed interactively, and the configuration geometries and analytical results are displayed graphically using built-in plotting routines. Results are also saved to files for post-processing.

Desktop Aeronautics programs are especially useful in education. With this software, students can attack real design problems and develop an intuitive understanding of important results previously acquired only through years of experience.
