Functional Programming at Yale

Projects

The Yale implementation of Haskell is our most visible ongoing project, but we usually have a variety of related research going on, depending on the interests of the current faculty, research scientists, and graduate students.

Here are pointers to some documents describing the Haskell language:

Current status of Haskell, including a summary of information about the language definition and various implementations.
A tutorial, a gentle introduction to Haskell by Paul Hudak and Joe Fasel.
The official definition of the Haskell language.
The proposal for the new monadic I/O system, which will likely be included in the next revision of the Haskell report. Most implementations now support the monadic I/O model instead of the functionality defined in the report.

And, here are pointers for obtaining implementations of Haskell:

Yale Haskell, our local pride and joy.
Gofer, which is an extended subset of Haskell implemented by Mark P. Jones. It runs on some pretty small machines.
HUGS, which is a Haskell interpreter based on Gofer also written by Mark P. Jones
GHC, the Glasgow Haskell Compiler, which comes from the busy keyboards of the Functional Programming Group at the University of Glasgow.
hbc, an implementation of Haskell from Chalmers Technical University in Goteborg, Sweden.

We have on-line a complete bibliography of all of the papers published by members of the Yale Haskell Group over the past 12 years! The bibliography is available in two forms:

Without abstracts (i.e. as would appear in a conventional reference list).
With abstracts.

Only some of these papers are available on-line (see below), but we have hard copies of everything. If there's something specific you'd like, send mail to Linda Joyce at joyce-linda@cs.yale.edu (almost everything is free, but there may be nominal charges for large items such as dissertations, conference proceedings, and manuals).
