WELCOME TO DUinfo :

DEAKIN UNIVERSITY'S CAMPUS WIDE INFORMATION SYSTEM

DUinfo contains information about the University and provides links to other information sources on the Internet. This system is currently under development.

Deakin University is one of Australia's largest universities, offering on-campus and off-campus studies to more than 26,000 people in Victoria, interstate and internationally. Deakin is committed to excellence in teaching, research, and consultancy. Five Faculties - Arts, Education, Health and Behavioural Sciences, Management, and Science and Technology - deliver a range of undergraduate, postgraduate and professional training courses.

The University is currently made up of five distinct campuses - Burwood, Geelong, Rusden, Toorak, and Warrnambool. The historic Dalgety Woolstores site on the Geelong waterfront is now being redeveloped to become the University's sixth campus.

  • Read recent news for staff and students, including University and Faculty newsletters. Check the Planning Calendar and the calendar of events. Some information for prospective students is available.

  • About Deakin University

  • Read about the new administrative structure. Search the Deakin Telephone Directory, the Policy and Procedures Directory (PPDIR), or the email directory. Access the Deakin Art Collection database, read the Council Minutes or the Summary of Research Funding Bodies. A list of Deakin Centres and Institutes is available. Read the University's Mission Statement and the history of Deakin University. Look up the pocket statistics.

  • Faculty Information

  • Consult the Directory of Teaching Expertise or connect to TEAS (Tutorial and Electronic Access System). A sample of the 1995 Course Handbook is available and selected exam papers will be available soon. Lists of publications by Deakin University Staff are also available.

  • Student Information

  • Consult the list of Deakin Student Associations at each campus, or read the Student Charter

  • Computing Resources

  • Contact the Service Desks, or the Deakin Computer Shop, or use FTP.

  • Library Resources

  • Login as "library" and search the Library Catalogue. Also find out about hours of opening, and check the list of CD-ROM databases available at each Campus Library. Read the Library newsletter, or the 'Student library guide'. Check the list of Liaison Librarians for each Faculty. Read the Library's Search Guides on Subject areas or Information sources. Search the Internet for information by subject or discipline, and view the Library's list of selected Internet resources.

    Library resources available at other Victorian academic libraries are listed in the Coolcat combined catalogue available in campus libraries. Descriptions of what is listed for each library is available in the Cool-Cat library holdings. Access to CoolCat is via the "CONNECT to another library" option in the Library Catalogue. Login is "library", if prompted.

    The Electronic Reference Library" (ERL) software is now available for use. The Library currently has ERIC, CINAHL, Medline, PsychInfo, Sociofile databases for authorised users.

  • Gopher Services

  • Find out about Gopher or access Deakin University's gopher. Search other Australian university gophers, all Australian gophers, or all the gophers of the world

  • World-Wide Web and the Internet

  • Find out about and explore World-Wide Web, and the Internet. A list of Deakin WWW servers is available, or consult the list of Australian WWW servers, and the list of WWW servers from around the world. Also look at the list of what's new with Mosaic and the WWW compiled by the National Center for Supercomputing Applications (NSCA)
