The Regional Laboratory for Educational Improvement of the Northeast and Islands is one of the 10 regional educational laboratories authorized by Congress and sponsored by the U.S. Department of Education's Office of Educational Research and Improvement (OERI). Under the direction of a 41-member, regionally representative governing board, the Laboratory does development work and provides assistance to educators and policymakers throughout its service area.
In addition to this WWW server, the Laboratory also maintains a gopher server. While containing many of the same documents found on the web server, our gopher also has available a number of longer documents and files of interest to educators around the Northeast and Islands region.
The Laboratory serves a region which includes New England, New York, Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands. Select a name from the list below for more information about that jurisdiction.
As a region, we contain two of the three largest school districts in the nation (New York City and Puerto Rico) as well as some of the most rural.
The Laboratory gathers information about current events, legislation, research and people in the field of education reform. This information is published in a variety of formats.
