ParaSoft Corporation History

ParaSoft Corporation was co-founded by Caltech graduate Dr. Adam Kolawa (Chairman & CEO) in July of 1987. The founders were members of the research team which developed the world's first parallel computer at the California Institute of Technology. Since its inception, ParaSoft Corporation has been recognized as the technological leader in the development of programming tools for parallel and distributed computers.

The Company is self-funded and is completely owned by the original founders.

In 1988, ParaSoft Corporation introduced its first product - Express.

Express is a complete programming environment for the development of parallel and distributed applications. It includes a tool which automatically converts sequential programs into parallel programs, provides the runtime environment for the execution of programs, and includes a distributed debugger and performance analysis system. Since its introduction, thousands of copies of Express have been sold and the system has been ported to many platforms. Today, Express is the leading commercial product in high performance parallel and distributed computing. Large pieces of the technology supporting Express have been licensed to other companies.

In 1991, ParaSoft released its second product - F90 - a converter from ANSI standard Fortran 90 to FORTRAN/77. This unique product allows programmers to quickly take advantage of the benefits of the new Fortran 90 language, even on computer systems which do not possess Fortran 90 compilers. This innovative product confirmed ParaSoft's commitment to supporting leading edge technology and the quest for higher programmer productivity and has been well received commercially.

In 1993, ParaSoft introduced its third commercial product - Insight.

The product name was changed to Insure++ in 1994.

Insure++ is an automatic debugger and runtime visualization tool for C and C++ programs. Rather than force the programmer to laboriously look for bugs in software through conventional means, Insure++ completely automates the process. By simply recompiling and running an application under Insure++, the most common problems found in C and C++ code are automatically detected and reported to the user, making software development much simpler. Its unique and innovative visualization tool allows users to "watch" their program operating forwards, backwards, and in slow-motion, much like a VCR! Subtle algorithmic errors or optimization opportunities are then easy to find. Insure++ is a major commercial success and has being ported to a wide variety of platforms at customer demand, including most workstations and even supercomputers. It also was recently named a "Best Product 1994" by Advanced Systems magazine.

Since its incorporation, the main thrust of ParaSoft's effort has been to take leading edge technology and turn it into high productivity programming tools. Due to its unique knowledge and experience, ParaSoft has assumed a leading consulting position in government and industry. Among the prestigious projects with which the company is currently involved is the National Information Highway, where ParaSoft's products are forming the backbone of one of the testbed communication systems.
