X Consortium welcome document

World Wide Web Server

The primary purpose of the X Consortium is to develop, evolve and maintain the X Window System, a vendor-neutral, system-architecture neutral, network-transparent windowing and user interface standard, and to perform other related research and experimentation in, and implementation of, open systems standards and technology.

The X Consortium is an independent, not-for-profit company. It was formed in 1993 as the successor to the MIT X Consortium, a research group formed in 1984 as part of the MIT Laboratory for Computer Science
