• We run a National Supercomputing Service for the UK academic community based upon a 6 processor, 4 Gbyte Convex C3860 supercomputer (Neptune) with a Convex C3200 front-end (Pluto). Our Gallery gives an image-based account of some of the work carried out on the supercomputing service.
• ULCC is the main site for National and International Network Connections in the UK. We run the Network Operations and Service Centre for the JANET Internet Protocol Service (JIPS), the largest of the JANET NOCs and various international links and relays on behalf of UKERNA.
• We run the National Microform Service and a Phototypesetter Service based upon a Dicomed D148C film recorder and a Linotronic 300 Imagesetter. Our media services also include scanning facilities and colour printing.
• We are running a pilot National Data Repository Service offering 6 Terabytes of network-accessible storage on an EMASS DataTower. Data appears as part of a normal filestore and can be accessed within seconds.
• We run short training courses on many aspects of computing from use of PCs, applications and networks to specialized courses for our supercomputer users. Courses take place in our well-equipped training suite in central London.
• ULCC is a member of SEL-HPC, the London and South East centre for High Performance Computing - a consortium funded through JISC to provide high performance computing training and education facilities.
