Exploration In Education
What do Henry Ford and the ExInEd program at the Space Telescope Science Institute have in common? Both are pioneers in developing new vehicles to run on the superhighways of the future. For Henry, it was Model T's; for ST ScI, it's a series of Electronic PictureBooks, which are learning aids being developed to share the highlights and challenges of space science research with today's modern adventure-seekers. Electronic PictureBooks are designed to capture your imagination, and, most importantly, to be fun. The software runs on any color Macintosh computer and contains full color images and informative text. Many Electronic PictureBooks titles currently exists, and the library is growing monthly! Subjects range from geography, to planetary science, to astrophysics, and might include anything from views of out home planet Earth to the lastest discoveries of the Hubble Space Telescope. Soon a whole library of Electronic PictureBooks will be available on CD-ROM (both Macintosh and IBM-compatible).
What Are Electronic PictureBooks?
Electronic PictureBooks are part of an expanding library of multimedia publications that highlight the results of contemporary astronomy and planetary science research, particularly images. They are authored by space scientists, engineers, and astronauts and produced as HyperCard stacks that run on any color Macintosh computer. Every Electronic PictureBook contains full color images and informative text and is designed with powerful navigational tools to assist the reader. Electronic PictureBooks are fun to use and we hope you (and your family or students) will be encouraged to try them out.
