And for you ladies exploring the Internet.
Here's a beautiful flower,
for a truely, beautiful flower.
This home page is under construction. Please excuse the mess.

For the curious, here are some personal information about me. Here is a text information link to view other text files in this Web page. Select these links for some interesting WWW servers, and FTP sites that I've found to contain many useful information for students who are into computers. I do not link to Gopher servers anymore. Everyone has converted to Web pages... For those who are in Electrical Engineering, the best place to go is the EE Department Web page. You might also be interested in their IEEE Student Organization. If you are connected from outside the University of Hawaii and am interested in engineering subjects, you might like to look at the Association for Computing Machinery. For special topics, like VLSI, you can try the Electrical Engineering Virtual Library and the Virtual Library Web server. I also found the Microelectronic Newsletter to contain lots of information about VLSI design. The Verilog Archive server contains source code and information about the Verilog HDL. And lastly, if you want to know the latest happenings in the IEEE ASIC society, then try this link. And lastly, if you're in search for some info about some chips then select this link. It has information on IC's from 4 bit CPU's to Pentiums. As promised, here's a link to NCSA's Beginner's Guide to HTML. This is where I learned how to create this Web page. Not very interesting, but it will get you started.

Other Text Information

Here are some text files about what I've been doing. See, I don't just play netrek all day.

This is my projects list (Preliminary). I would very much like to work on these. But I'm finding that my free time is severly limited this past year. Probably because I am graduating in May of 95. So now, I'm on the job hunt. Here's a quick view of my resume. You can also review my cover letter from this link. Give me any comments you might have. But none of that "You stink, you'll never find a job on this planet. You'll end up a bitter old man living in a cardboard box under a bridge." I got enough of those. ;-) Just in case anyone else is looking for a job. I heard of this Intellimatch link that matches employers with job searchers. Go check it out.

Interesting Web Servers

This is my list of interesting Web servers around the world. They are interesting because these sites contain information that relates to my hobbies.

For instance, I some times frequent a local Internet access provider called the Flex Information Network. If you know someone who is looking for local internet access, make sure to mention Flex. I am also interested in Amatuer Radio. This is the local ham radio Web page. You might also be interested in high speed links over the airwaves. If so, check out this site. If you're looking for Chinese Web pages, look no further then the Web server of CSIE, NCTU, Taiwan. Note, you need the Chinese fonts and Chinese character support to view these Web pages. A Chinese compatible version of Mosaic can be found at China News Digest for Linux. For other systems (especially PC's), check out this site. It describes some basic steps to setup a system to net-surf with chinese characters. Another thing I'm interested in is free software. Thus, if you're also interested, why not join the Hungry Programmers. They are working to write a replacement for MS-Word for Windows using Motif. But Motif is not free, so they are also writing a free version of Motif. Last but not least. The GNU Project now has a Web page. This site also includes FTP sites for the various GNU tools. Thus the GNU ftp site will not be listed below in the Interesting FTP Sites section.

Interesting FTP Sites

Most of these ftp sites contain source code to binaries in my bin dir or things I've used.

Linux, for instance, is the OS I use at home (if you are a Linux user, why not tell the rest of the world by registering). Of course, if you're interested in BSD OS's... If you want yet another free OS; the GNU Hurd, it needs the Mach microkernel to work. If you like graphics with your OS, then you need the X Window System. For other OS's, like MS-DOS, many shareware packages are available. For MS-Windows, check this site. Network software can also be found, like NCSA Telnet and PPP for DOS. I haven't forgotten you Macintosh users, I've found this site to contain the largest collection of Mac shareware and PD programs.

Here is a list of audio sample sites for you music listening net surfers.

Mod, Midi, and large Wav samples.

Various Song samples.

Large collection of Mods.

If you still have time. Here is a list of other interesting links.

Personal Information

Jimen Ching
2108 Citron St. Apt. #2
Honolulu, HI 96826

Since all the other EE students wrote more personal information than I did. I thought I might as well include my own.

I was born in Viet Nam on May 6, 1972 at around 11:45 am. I came to Hawaii with my family on Feb. 10, 1980. I attended Ala Wai elementary, then went to Washington Intermediate. I graduated from McKinley High School in 1990, and came to the University of Hawaii, thereafter. I have now attended U.H. for 5 years. Hopefully, I will graduate in May, 1995. Originally, I planned to enter the electro-physics track, but I was not smart enough to keep up with the other students, so I switched to the computer track. From the above links, you probably have an idea of my hobbies. The only things left to list is my favorite things. Well here is a list of some of them:

Well, these are my favorite things. There's nothing else to say, unless you want to know about my psychological mindset. You can actually get a glance from my cover letter on topic. Things like what I think of politics and such, :-) I'll spare you the details and end it here. Thanks for reading this far. Gee, you must not have a very interesting life to be this interested in my life. *grin* Well, hope you enjoyed your trip through my home page. Come by any time.
