Earthquake Digital Data CD-ROM
Each volume of Earthquake Digital Data contains digital waveform data from high quality stations located throughout the world. These data are from international networks of high-quality seismic stations that cooperate with the NEIC in data exchange. The stations include those supported by the U.S. Geological Survey and the Incorporated Research Institutions for Seismology (IRIS). Data from these and other stations are collected by the USGS Albuquerque Seismological Laboratory. The CD-ROM volumes are produced by the NEIC. Volumes 1 through 8 span the time period 1980 through 1986 and contain data for earthquakes of magnitude 5.5 or greater. Beginning with 1987 data (Volume 9), the magnitude threshold is lowered to 4.9. The retrieval software, SONIC, is provided on floppy disks that written for IBM-compatible microcomputers. The software allows the user to select, display, and retrieve seismic data from the compact disc.
