The Sport of Ultimate in Arizona
Ultimate is a non-contact, highly aerobic field sport played by two
teams of 7 players using a plastic disc ("Frisbee", a registered
trademark of the Wham-O corporation). The game orginated about 25
years ago, and today the UPA (Ultimate Players Association) is a
national organization with over 8,000 members. In addition, the WFDF
(World Flying Disc Federation) holds competitions for players in
dozens of countries around the world.
In Arizona, there are teams at ASU and a very active club in Tempe.
Flagstaff has recently formed a team, and Tucson is very active in
all areas of competition. For information about Ultimate in
the Phoenix area, call Valley of the Sun Ultimate at 602-230-4139.
