Mission Statement
- Directs the preparation of the Tritium Supply and Recycling Programmatic
Environmental Impact Statement (PEIS) and prepares recommendations to be
included in the Record of Decision (ROD). Following the ROD on the
Tritium Supply and Recycling PEIS, directs the preparation of project/site
specific environmental documents on tritium supply and recycling.
- Directs the preparation of the Stockpile Stewardship and Management PEIS
and prepares recommendations to be included in the ROD.
- Conducts public outreach program for the Reconfiguration Program,
including public participation process for the PEISs.

Availability of the Tritium Supply and Recycling Draft Programmatic
Environmental Impact Statement; Published: March 17, 1995
- The Department of Energy (DOE) announces the availability of the
Tritium Supply and Recycling Draft Programmatic Environmental Impact
Statement (PEIS), and the dates and locations for public hearings to
receive comments on the Draft PEIS. The purpose of the Tritium Supply
and Recycling PEIS is to evaluate alternatives for an assured, long-term
supply of tritium, a radioactive gas which is a necessary component of
every warhead in the Nation's nuclear weapons stockpile.

Public Hearing Information
The Department of Energy (DOE) is proposing to build a facility to produce
tritium for the next 40 years and is requesting the public to give input
on which technology to employ and where to locate such a facility. This
information is discussed in rge February 1995 Draft Programmatic Environmental
Impact Statement (DPEIS) for Tritium Supply and Recycling (DOE/EIS-0160).

country at the following sites and dates:

- April 20, 1995: Amarillo, TX
