The Geophysics Directorate of Phillips Laboratory (PL/GP) is a world leader in geophysics, the science of the earth in its solar-terrestial environment. As technology advances, systems become increasingly dependent on their environments. Air Force systems, which operate in space, the ionosphere, the atmosphere, on earth, and below it, are influenced by solar emissions, gravity, weather, and earthquakes. The mission of the Geophysics Directorate is to understand these environmental forces so that it can define design parameters for Air Force systems.
