Club Information

The Palo Alto Judo Club is one of the oldest and most reputable judo clubs in the Bay Area. The judo club was established in 1952 and has produced many champions and outstanding students. The students have learned to use the disciplines of judo to perfect themselves, to cultivate trust and respect from others, and to make positive contributions to society.

None of the club's senseis (instructors) are paid for the many hours of work they volunteer to teaching our students. Among the instructors there are many years of experience and expertise. They are well qualified to teach and share not just attack and defense techniques, but all aspects of Kodokan judo.

Practice and Tournaments

The Palo Alto Judo Club practices Monday and Thursday evenings at the Jane Lathrop Stanford Middle School gymnasium located at 480 E. Meadow Drive, Palo Alto. Practices run from 7:00 to 9:00 pm, except during summer sessions which go from 7:00 to 9:30 pm. The school is located on the corner of E. Meadow and Waverley Street.

The judo club students compete in local tournaments sponsored by various Bay Area clubs. The tournaments are open to all students and provide a valuable learning experience and that cannot be obtained by regular club practice. The Palo Alto Judo Club hosts a regional tournament each year. This year, the tournament will be held on September 24, 1995 at Palo Alto High School in Palo Alto.
