Nile

The Branch Office Access Router

The Nile is a remote multiprotocol bridge/ router designed to minimize network operating costs, while maximizing connectivity options, performance, and flexibility.

A true access router, Nile is ideal for remote branch offices, working together with other ACC products or third party routers to provide an enterprise network solution. Nile supports all popular wide area protocols, including frame relay, X.25, SMDS, dedicated lines and ISDN. Nile also supports ACC's exclusive Bandwidth Optimization features, which dramatically reduce lifetime operating costs of your network.

Modular Design and Maximum FlexibilityBandwidth Optimization Features Reduce Network Operating Costs

Nile supports ACC's exclusive Bandwidth Optimization features at no additional cost. Data compression typically reduces the amount of data sent on WAN links by a factor of 4:1. This not only reduces WAN charges, but in some cases eliminates the need to upgrade to faster, more expensive wide area links. Express Queuing automatically allocates available bandwidth equally to all active sessions, providing predictable network response times to all users. Dial-up routing features, such as Dial on Demand, Dial on Congestion and Dial Backup, allow less expensive switched digital services to be used where leased lines are not cost effective. Most importantly, these Bandwidth Optimization features can be used on a variety of wide area services. This results in lower network costs two ways: first, the lowest cost WAN service can be used, and second, no matter what service is used, Nile minimizes the recurring costs.

High Performance Processing

At Nile's heart is a 25 MHz 68020 processor. This processor, in combination with a high performance memory architecture, provides the performance needed in today's demanding networks. Nile supports combined link speeds between 9.6 kbps and 2.048 Mbps.

Downloadable Software Reduces Maintenance Costs

Nile's disk drive makes software upgrades as easy as inserting a diskette and rebooting. Nile also offers flash memory to support downloading of code from a central location. With flash memory, an entire network of Niles can be maintained from a central location. Nile's memory can be expanded from 2.0 Mbyte up to 8.0 Mbyte to handle networks with very large routing databases.

Compliance with Standards Ensures Interoperability

Although ACC would like you to buy all of your routers from us, we understand that real networks often have equipment from multiple vendors. ACC is an active participant in the standards process which is so important in ensuring full standards compliance in all our products. The benefit to you is the highest level of interoperability in a multivendor internetwork.
