The Institute of Science and Public Affairs (ISPA) of Florida State University in Tallahassee, Florida, matches university resources and expertise to public and private sector problems. The research units within ISPA are staffed with specialists in the fields of biology, chemistry, geography, land use planning, public administration, physics, economics, and law. These centers carry out the public service responsibility of the univeristy through programs in education, training and applied research.

ISPA emphasizes the use of these university research acitivites to train students in problem-solving environments for future positions in management, planning, the sciences, or administration. Government agencies and private sector organizations benefit from this dynamic source of trained and skilled personnel.

The principal objective of the Institute is to assist public agencies in anticipating management, environmental, and resource problems, enabling the agency to assume a posture of positive action toward a solution.
