Welcome to the Real Beer Page on the
World Wide Web.
Our objective is to provide you with a Hypertexted, virtual brew-tour of
Microbreweries and provide you with a lot of the
information that you can use along the way.
We created this page because:
we thought it was a no-brainer for the
audience (21-44 year olds);
we thought it was ideal for the format --
brewtours, like surfing, are perfect for the WWW;
and because we thought it would be awesome to combine
all the things we love -- computing,
design, writing, system analysis, and, of course, beer.
We believe that providing value to an audience will bring them back
with their friends.
Most of the Microbrewers we've met feel the same way.
For the sake of value, we've tried to make our images as small as
possible (you always walk the line between effective and efficient
communications), to leverage cached images, and to omit gratuitous graphics.
As you read this, the first graphic may still be loading.
Bear with us, we think you will find that the slow-load graphic pays off the Brew Touring metaphor. On a Brew Tour you learn a lot about the breweries,
their personalities, and philosophies about brewing.
You also get to meet some new people and trade information.
That's what this area is all about.
- Brew Tour:
Locate Microbreweries near you, and build your own brew tour.
Right now we have the Microbreweries of the Bay Area,
organized so that you can make an informed decision about who
to visit.
As we go along we will add information from across the states
and around the world.
You can even update our list if your browser supports forms.
- Public Transportation:
Following our brew-tour metaphor, this resource
will get you there and back in one piece. Here, we are compiling
links to public transportation pages on the web. Check out the
Bay Area Transportation Page as an excellent example.
- Tunnels:
Links to other great work about the subject we love.
- News:
Online Brewspapers with frequently updated news about events,
contests, openings, closings and noteworthy items in the world
of Microbrewing. Currently, we have
The Celebrator Brewspaper, Brew Magazine
and
Southern Draft Brew News online and are working on
other soon-to-be-announced publications.
- Notes:
A content-rich area with information, tidbits, gossip and scholarly
works about Real Beer.
- Events:
Festivals and the like, such as The Great
American Beer Festival (GABF).
- Patrons:
Meet regulars to these parts and this subject, and visit our
Hall Of Public Servants (HOPS),
the otherwise thankless hoard of contributors of regional information.
Perhaps you'd like to enter the HOPS with your own contributions.
- Merchandise:
Order products directly from the Microbrewers. Great T-Shirts, Caps
and other brew-collectibles. Ideal for gifts or for yourself.
- Brewers:
Hear it from the horses mouth -- brewing philosophies,
tips, favorite home-brew recipes, etc.
Whether you make your own or just want to try theirs,
here's the place to go.
- Games:
Games people play while quaffing a cold-one (or a warm one
depending on your preference).
- Burp Me:
It's probably just what it sounds like.
Have a gas touring this way, but try to stay down-wind.
- Authors:
Learn about the guys behind the Real Beer Page, as well as the leading
authors from the regional brewspapers.
