The Programmer's Hierarchical Interactive Graphics System (PHIGS) is a programming interface for the development of 3D graphics applications. Click here for an exciting PHIGS-generated icon.

This is the top node for the technical documentation of the PHIGS Validation Tests (PVT), a product of the Computer Systems Laboratory (CSL) of the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST). Click here for more information about other CSL programs dealing with graphics standards. The following topics concerning PHIGS and the PVT are currently available:

  • Design Strategy for PHIGS Conformance Tests
  • PVT User's Guide, Version 2.1
  • Overview of PHIGS standard
  • Hierarchical table of topics covered by the PVT
  • Table of PHIGS data structures
