Instructions For Adding Yourself to the Expertise Database

Questionnaire Overview:

• The information you provide is first checked by a team of technical editors. The cycle from submission to publication is approximately two weeks. During this time you will be unable to update your profile.

• Have a look at the questionnaire, print it out, and gather all of the information you wish to supply prior to submitting your profile. You must complete the questionnaire through all three steps as outlined below. Exiting the questionnaire before completion will erase all the information that you have entered. Search the Expertise database as well, to see what other researchers have supplied.

• You may wish to use a word processor or text editor to write your expertise account and then copy and paste to your WWW client.

There are four steps to completing a profile:

• Fill out the questionnaire
• Proofread your profile
• Revise/edit your profile
• Submit or further revise your record

Filling Out the Questionnaire:

• You will first be asked to assign yourself a username and password. You will use this information to update your profile in the future, so please remember it (write it down).

• The rest of the questionnaire is a series of fields designed to profile your research interests and expertise. If a question doesn't apply to you, simply leave it blank.

Proofreading your Profile:

• At the bottom of the form, you will see a button entitled

  "Look at your Entry"

  Select this when you have completed filling out the questionnaire to see a display of your profile. The system will indicate fields that should normally be filled out. Make sure that all the information is correct and complete.

• If you choose not to continue or if you exit your WWW client your work will be lost at this point!

Revising/editing your Profile:

• At the bottom of the profile display you will see a button labelled:

  "Edit and Prepare this Entry for Submission to the Database Editor".

  Selecting this button will take you to the final form where you may edit, revise, or supply additional information.

To Submit or Further Revise a Profile

• Submission:

  At the bottom of this final form, you will see two check boxes. The checkbox that is selected by default is labelled:

  "Submit This Final Version to the Database Editors".

  If you are ready to submit your record, simply leave this box checked and select the button entitled:

  "Review/Submit"

  and your record will be sent to the database editors.

• Further Revision:

  If you would like to review and edit your record further, choose the checkbox labelled:

  "Review and edit your data before submission".

  and select the button entitled:

  "Review/Submit"

  You will have the oportunity to see another display of your record and then, as before, be able to edit your record further. At this point you can cycle through displaying and editing your record as many times as you'd like until you feel that it is ready for submission.

• If you do not Submit your record at some point all information will be lost when you exit your WWW client!

Important Technical Note:

Please make sure that you are using the latest version of your WWW client.
