Hitachi America, Ltd. Hitachi's presence in the United States dates back more than 35 years (1959). Today, Hitachi Amerca, Ltd. has grown to become a $3.4 billion company (March, 1994) with more than 5,400 employees in 9 divisions and 11 subsidiaries around the country. Its product lines include leading edge technology in the automotive, computer, power generation, semiconductor and office automation systems industries. Hitachi Amercia, Ltd. is a wholly owned subsidiary and enjoys the support of Hitachi, Ltd., a $72 billion company with over 330,000 employees around the world. In fiscal year 1994, Hitachi,Ltd. spent $4.7 billion in one of the most innovative research and development programs in the world.

DIVISIONS

Automotive Products Division (AUP) -- markets an extensive line of automotive electronic and electrical components such as hot wire air flow sensors, accelerometers for air bag and ride control systems, sensors for measuring gas flow and idle speed control valves.

Computer Division (COM) -- is comprised of three groups. The Large Systems Sales and Marketing group (LSSM) supplies products to Hitachi Data Systems and to major American manufactures on an OEM basis. LSSM's products consist of large storage devices such as disk drives of 9.5 inches or larger, magnetic tape products and solid state disk drives.

The peripheral Sales and Marketing group (PSM) provides high performance mass storage devices to OEMs, value added resellers, systems integrators and high-tech distributors. The group's products include small disk drives geared to the workstation, PC, and notebook markets; optical drives and libraries; and disk subsystems.

The Information System Sales and Marketing group (ISSM) sells Hitachi M series mainframes, information systems and software products to a specialized U.S. market

Electron Tube Division (ELT) -- is a leading supplier of liquid crystal and thin-film transistor displays, and cathode ray and magnetron tubes.

Field Engineering Division (FIE) -- installs and services Hitachi mainframe computers and communications equipment throughout North America.

Office Automation Systems Division (OAS) -- supplies advanced technology business tools for the workplace. Products include high performance color monitors, laser printers, and X-terminals used in manufacturing, architectural, and industrial design workstations.

Power and Industrial Division (PID) -- supplies a broad range of products for industrial plants; mass transit systems; hydroelectric, thermal and nuclear power plants; and manufacturing facilities including turbines, generators, boilers, large motors, gears, compressors, steel mills, chemical plant equipment, plasma etching machines and factory automation process controllers. In addition, PID provides sophisticated equipment and components for industrial, automotive and air conditioning applications. Such products include submersible pump and precision motors; oil free air compressors and blowers, programmable logic controllers and inverters; ductless air conditioning units; and high efficiency screw and scroll compressors.

Procurement and Technical Service Division (P&TS) -- is Hitachi's purchasing and export arm, serving Hitachi, Ltd. as well as Hitachi America, Ltd's divisions and subsidiaries.

Research and Development Division (R&D) -- was established in 1989 with the primary goal of creating new technology for Hitachi's businesses in North America. The division is linked to the global R&D efforts of Hitachi, Ltd. Today, Hitachi America, Ltd. has three laboratories and planning and administration divisions on both coasts. It sponsors research seminars and programs with America's top universities and participates in several residential research programs with U.S. corporations.

The automotive Products Research Laboratory (APL) in Farmington Hills, MI has been experimenting with cleaner burning engines. Their goal: a non- polluting car of the future.

The Semiconductor Research Laboratory (SRL) in Brisbane, CA is creating new technologies in high-speed digital signal processing (DSP).

The Advanced TV Systems Lab (ASL) in Princeton, NJ is developing a prototype receiver for the American Advanced Television (ATV) broadcast standard.

Semiconductor & IC Division (S&IC) -- is one of the top ten suppliers to the U.S. semiconductor market. Products include Apoplication Specific Integrated Circuits (ASICs), including CMOS and BiCMOS gate arrays and standard cell arrays; memory and memory cards; microprocessors and embedded controllers, optoelectronic devices, analog ICs, logic families, discrete semiconductors, and communications ICs.

SUBSIDIARIES

Hitachi Automotive Products (USA), Inc. (HAP) -- is the U.S.-based manufacturing subsidiary of Hitachi America, Ltd's automotive business. Its products include air flow meters, throttle bodies, engine and transmission control modules, alternators, distributors, ignition coils, and idle speed control valves. HAP has sales divisions in Detroit, Nashville and Los Angeles and exports approximately 15% of its sales to Europe, Mexico and Japan.

Hitachi (Canadian) Ltd. (HCC) -- has offices in Toronto, Ottawa and Calgary. The Toronto office provides customers with power, industrial processing and transportation equipment, as well as telecommunications, office automation and computer systems. HCC's Ottawa office provides Canadian OEMs with integrated circuitry and liquid crystal displays, while its Calgary office, provides curtomer service and support for utilites and major manufacturers that rely on Hitachi power generation equipment and heavy industrial machinery installations.

Hitachi Computer Products (America), Inc. (HICAM) -- manufactures a wide range of mainframe computer peripherals including disk and magnetic tape drives and semiconductor storage devices. HICAM developed Mosaic Works, a powerful E-mail directory synchronization software product line that solves the problem of incompatible E-mail directories.

Hitachi Electronic Devices (USA), Inc. (HED) -- manufactures direct view color picture tubes. Products include 25- and 27- and 31-inch tubes.

Hitachi Farmington Hills Technical Center, Inc. (HFTC) -- is the engineering arm of HAP's automotive business. HFTC provides engineering, design and development support to AUP and HAP. The center developed high-quality sensors and control units that are used to reduce car emmissions.

Hitachi Home Electronics (America), Inc. (HHEA) -- develops, manufactures and markets a variety of consumer electronics, small appliances and commercial multimedia products. Along with direct-view and projection TVs, HHEA offers VCRs, camcorders, compact stereo systems, portable audio systems and various small appliances.

Hitachi Consumer Products de Mexico (HIMEX) -- is a subsidiary of Hitachi Home Electronics (America) which manufactures color and projection TVs. HIMEX works in conjunction with HHEA's engineering and product development facility in San Diego California.

Hitachi Instruments, Inc. (HII) -- manufactures, markets and services a wide range of sophisticated scientific instruments to the medical, academic, industrial and governmental communities. The subsidiary's spectrophotometers and chromatographs identify the presence and quantity of physical and chemical substances. Such instruments are used, for example, to measure levels of lead in blood and to detect traces of metals such as copper and lead in soil and water.

Hitachi Micro Systems, Inc. (HMSI) -- is a semiconductor solutions company that specializes in planning, design, development and support of IC's for the North American market.

Hitachi Semiconductor (America), Inc. (HISUS) -- is the manufacturing component of Hitachi American, Ltd's S&IC division. The subsidiary develops and produces semiconductor components, memory modules, microcontrollers and other memory products.

Hitachi Telecom (USA), Inc. (HITEL) -- develops, manufactures, and markets a variety of telecommunications products, including PBX systems with applications software for businesses, hotels, residential complexes and universities; and network products such as ATM multiplexing and switching equipment, SONET fiber optic transmision equipment and associated element management systems.
