Welcome to
The Cecil G. Sheps Center for Health Services Research

Sheps Center Mission
Since its establishment in 1968, the Cecil G. Sheps Center for Health Services Research has organized interdisciplinary research on the structure and impact of the health care system. The Center was renamed for its founder in 1991. A fundamental interest of the Center has been the interaction between the medical care system and vulnerable populations, such as the poor, elderly persons, rural residents, minority groups, the chronically ill, children, and the mentally ill. Questions about access to care, quality of care, efficacy and effectiveness of care as they affect health-related quality of life are examined in the context of the political and economic environment. Coordinated with its research and evaluation agenda are the Center's efforts in information dissemination, technical assistance, and education. This multifaceted set of endeavors illuminates the obstacles vulnerable populations face as they pursue medically-effective, cost-effective, efficient, and relevant health care from the complex, dynamic health system.
