The Jean and Alexander Heard Library
Welcome to the Jean and Alexander Heard Library of
Vanderbilt University, a scholar's library, where growing collections
of over 2 million volumes, 1.8 million microform items, and more than
16,000 currently received serial titles are housed. The Heard Library is
actually nine libraries on campus:

Each library reflects unique character and strengths in its collections
and services as they strive toward a common
mission.
The Jean and Alexander Heard Library is a member of the Association of Research Libraries and the
Center for Research Libraries.

Acorn, Vanderbilt's online electronic catalog,
includes listings for virtually all the materials in the
Vanderbilt libraries, indicating their location and availability.
The library subscribes to several commercial databases and loads them on
the local system. Databases currently available on Acorn Plus are
ABI/INFORM, Books in Print, General Science Index, Index to Legal Periodicals,
Newspaper Abstracts,
Periodical Abstracts, and PsycINFO.
Access to these databases
is restricted to Vanderbilt students, faculty and staff.
In addition to
the databases on Acorn Plus, the library subscribes to many more
databases on
CD-ROM and other electronic formats.
A collection of reference sources on the Internet and other recommended
Webs to visit.
