Government of India has identified INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY(IT) as a high priority industry with tremendous potential for growth. The Government has initiated several measures for healthy proliferation, by indentifying software exports as thrust areas.

A policy on computer software export,software development and training was announced ,to this effect, during 1986 streamlining the procedures, deregulation, an open policy towards foreign investments,etc.,to enable the software industries to commence their operation with minimum gestation period.

During 1990,Govt. of India has announced Software Technology Park(STP) scheme with an objective to provide a conductive and congenial environment to the software exporters in order to boost software exports of the country.
