The Graduate School comprises programs based in all the undergraduate
colleges and provides advanced teaching and research opportunities. The
Graduate School was founded in 1927, and began offering doctoral programs
30 years later. Today, the Graduate School awards over 750 graduate
degrees each year, the largest college enrollment at the University.
Graduate activities in nearly 80 degree programs enhance and improve the
quality and caliber of undergraduate teaching and provide an arena for
graduate-level scientific and technical research, and scholarship and
artistic performamce in the arts, humanities, and social sciences.
