The Committee
(Or should that be The Should-Be-Committed?)
Iain (M) Banks
- Noted SF author who also writes strange mainstream books that are
much weirder than his SF. Came and gave us an interesting talk in the
first term in return for a curry with the committee. Is a totally
wonderful person, even if he is completely manic. The best place to meet
him is at science fiction conventions, where he'll invariably be found in
the bar.
A Few Notes on the Culture is an article by him about his fictional
star-spanning society "The Culture", and there is also an
archive relating
to his work.
Madness rating: 10
Dave Tait - denies he is a trekkie, despite the fact that he wears
an ST:TNG communicator badge, but admits to being a Magic; the Gathering
addict. Recently found cheating during a Magic tournament in Aberdeen
by having too many cards of the same colour (non-Magic players
completely baffled by this shouldn't worry - it's a very sad game).
Madness rating: 8.5
Contacts:
E-mail: dst@st-and.ac.uk (don't bother, he hasn't read it for over six months).
Tel: None.
Address: 8 College Street, St Andrews.
(More often to be found at 5A Howard Place playing Magic; the Gathering.)
Nik Jenkins - Isn't a trekkie or a Magic addict. Was recently found to have
been having an affair with a Zebra and Servalan at the same time (though
not involved in a menage-a-trois). Likes Anne Rice books and Rutger Hauer,
but is nice for all that.
Madness Rating: 6.7

George(/ina) Hudson - A caffeine addict like most of the committee.
Panics rarely
(i.e. once a term when Sirius Moonlight is due). Likes fluffy toys because
they don't talk back to her (most of the time). Always looking for articles.

Louise Buchanan - Don't know why we need a sub-editor really. There can't
be that many underwater stories submitted to Sirius Moonlight.
Has a fetish for men's thighs, buttocks etc. Especially likes the treasurers
knees, or so it is reported.
Calms the editor down when no articles are available.
Is pathologically tidy, so watch your mess if she comes to visit.

Sian Mather - Yet another Rock Soc member. Volunteered for the job of
writing to people and arranging lots of fun things to do, even if
she doesn't come to them herself. Likes David Eddings, but I'm sure she'll
grow out of it eventually.
Is always organised for committee meetings, and is the only one to arrive on
time for them.

Peter Cridland (aka Cridzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz) - Ex-New Hall inhabitant (he
got over it apparently). Will quote strange pop lyrics for food (or
even for no food, and in spite of death threats in a minibus). Beware of
him if you go to borrow a library book since he may jump out and demand
money for the privelege (Don't give him any, though, since it only
encourages him).

Address: 1 Alexandra Court.
Patrick Dobson (aka Alice) - Claims he is not cute, nor is he a clone of
Eeyore. Has a permanently bad back from carrying a very large TV from
Alexandra Court to the Union building and back again. Does not demand
bananas in return for the use of the library, but you're more likely to
get what you want if you bring one along (and don't mention the M-word!).
Likes mainly Tolkien, so doesn't read very much (there's not a lot there
to read, even with Christopher's waste-basket rubbish).

Tim Butterworth - A mystery figure with strange illnesses and habits.
Only to be seen on rare occasions, such as one committee meeting a term.
Puts up notices misdirecting people to events. Don't bother trying to find
him. You'll only see him when you're not looking, and don't need him.

Jenny Tweedie - A good shot with a laser-tag gun, and willing to make
a fool of herself in silly games when dragged out in front. Is too young
to know any better, so we let her get away with murder (we didn't like the
previous president anyway ;-)). Looks good in a hat.
Madness Rating: 7.9

Ał (aka Andrew A Adams) - has strange initials due to an accident with
a contraceptive and a typewriter. A completely wonderful person, excellent
at everything, especially self-aggrandisement and writing committee
blurbs for Web pages :-). Spends far too much time reading Usenet
rec.arts.sf.* groups and is a fan of Babylon 5. Has too many books and
too many videos, and a nice sideline in obscure SF quiz questions and
answers.
