What is WWW
The World Wide Web, WWW,
is an distributed information system similar to
Gopher/LUCI. However it
uses Hypertext rather than text files as its base structure. It is growing
in use and may well rival Gopher in the future in popularity.
WWW has many names:
These all refer to features or software of the Web.
WWW at Lakehead
The use of WWW is an alternative to
LUCI for distributing
information. (LUCI is Lakehead's gopher based Campus Wide
Information System.)
It's advantages are:
- Ability to link keywords in a document to other documents.
- Ability to include graphic images, sounds, video, and font changes within a single document.
Lakehead's WWW server is called LU-Web.
Here is a sample of HTTP documents available from LU for testing:
And here are some interesting off campus WWW services:
Sporting Information
Industry Information
Of Interest to Academia
Other WWW sites, information, and searching tools
Events, other misc. information
And if you like the old gopher
or backup gopher
just select it.
New LU LUCI test.
This server is currently under construction.
