Fusion Research at the University of Texas
The Fusion Research Center, The Institute for Fusion Studies, and The University have a major role in a large International program in the search for
Fusion Energy
.
The Fusion Research Center operates the Texas Experimental Tokamak (TEXT). It is a national facility for research on fusion plasmas built and operated by the University of Texas at Austin for the Department of Energy. It is a general-purpose device designed to provide facilities for fusion experiments which are not compatible with the performance or schedules of the principal confinement device.
The Institute for Fusion Studies (IFS) was founded jointly by the DOE and the University of Texas (UT) to perform research in all areas of nuclear fusion energy science. The Institute also participates in the Computational Grand Challenge Program as part of DOE's efforts to advance large-scale computation and simulation. IFS and its sister organization, the Fusion Research Center (FRC) at UT, employ more than 85 scientists and technicians.
The fundamental purpose of the MFE database is to provide the fusion community with complete sets of experimental data from a variety of machines and discharge conditions. This server is under construction. URLs and content will no doubt change quite rapidly at first, please excuse any inconveniance.
