File Extension Glossary

*.bac*		Binary Backup file format.
*.bak*		Backup format often seen in the Windows OS.
*.bas*		Basic Language source code file format. This format contains program code written in the Basic computer programming language.
*.bat*		Batch file format. Files with this extension contain messages to your computer on how to run specified programs within it.
*.bdf*		Adobe Glyph Bitmap Distribution Format. ASCII-based file format used to store Adobe screen fonts as human-readable data.
*.bck*		VMS Backup file format. This type of file format contains a backup performed on a VMS/VAX system.
*.bin*		Macbinary II encoded file format. Compressed format used by the Macintosh platform.
*.bmf*		Binary Material File format. Format that is similar to .bmp files used by several Corel programs.
*.bmp*		Bitmap file format. Native bitmap file format of the Microsoft Windows environment.
*.boo*		Bootstrap file format. Developed especially for distribution of Kermit binaries over networks, e-mail, and communication lines.
*.byu*		Brigham Young University file format. Used by the Brigham Young University Movie BYU program.
