Obtaining the latest KingFisher

NOTE: Starting with release 20, KingFisher began using a keyfile to identify registered versions. If you are a registered user but have not obtained your keyfile, please click here on how to get your keyfile and re-activate the features for which you paid.

KingFisher is split into three component archives to make upgrading easier:

This archive contains:
- KFServer, KingFisher, and RexxFisher software,
- AmigaGuide« (online) documentation for all included software,
- Eight (8) language catalogs for non-English support of: Dansk, Deutsch, Nederlands, Espa˝ol, Franšais, Suomi, and Svenska. English is built-in.
If you are upgrading an installation this file is all you need.

This archive contains:
- A ready-to-use KingFisher Release 2 Database containing all 1100+ Fish Disks released so far (as recorded on GoldFish 3 CD-ROM.)
If you use the previously distributed "1000 Fish Disks" database you may wish to download this file... HOWEVER, PLEASE NOTE that the KingFisher Installer will not overwrite an existing database as there is always the possibility that you've made changes to your current version. If you wish to install the new database, you will have to remove your old database with the CLI command

delete :KingFisher2/1000Fish#?

before installing the new one.

This archive contains:
- The KingFisher Developer Kit, which includes source code for the server's API and some example sources to demonstrate attaching to the server and retrieving data from it,
- ARexx example scripts to show how to use RexxFisher (the client that provides an ARexx interface to the server),
- Several example layout format files,
- Some Search Sets from the above "1100+ Fish Disks" database,
- Some alternate button images to demonstrate changing as many as 28 of KingFisher's interface buttons to any image and size you want.
NOTE: There was a problem with one of the alternate button images that could result in crashes on some systems. The image in question has been removed from this archive as of 20-May-1996 11:00 EST. It may be replaced at a later time with a new image.

Major new features 2.21 --> 2.26

Some bug fixes, operational improvments, French language catalog, and some (minor) changes and additions to the documentation.
EDIT menu re-enabled, a minor bug fix, and documentation fixed.
An improved layout engine for Product-Info files: indentation of text with \> and \t sequences will now produce much nicer and better aligned text,
Product-Info Specification v8 (very minor extension to v7, which is itself a reorganization and cleanup of v6) to better document previous and new features,
Support for external alerts when a search completes (say "kingfisher has found something" or say "kingfisher found nothing")
Support for external alert when forced out of (hotlinked) view mode (say "back to viewing the database")
Updated the Developer Kit because of an internal change to the server.

The latest version of KingFisher should be available on Aminet in the /biz/dbase/ directory. The filename will be KingFisher#?.lha where in the place of #? will be a version number (without the period.) I.e. version 2.20 would be KingFisher220.lha

ATTENTION DEVELOPERS: If you are interested in writing client software to attach to the KingFisher Database Server, or interface with the Database Server directly, you may now obtain the KingFisher Developer Kit from one of the archives listed above. It is no longer necessary to be a registered user to develop for KingFisher.
