The Making of Tyrannosaurus rex

A full-sized Tyrannosaurus rex is coming soon to the University of California Museum of Paleontology. For now, an able but less impressive stand-in, affectionately known as "The Temp" is on display in the 3-story circular stairwell just outside the museum's new home in the Valley Life Sciences Building. Rest assured the REAL THING will fill up the stairwell.

Some very large crates recently arrived at UCMP. An unpacking scene that would make Santa proud has left museum curator Mark Goodwin an impressive pile of bones to take care of, including a skull in desperate need of some dentures. Also among the rubble were several claws that museum director Jere Lipps felt compelled to try on for size.

UCMP is indebted to the public for the generous gifts received through the "Own a Piece of the Rex" Campaign. Without these funds UCMP would not have been able to afford to construct this awe inspiring skeleton. Thank you!
