The Allen Memorial Art MuseumOberlin College. At the turn of the century Oberlin College began to acquire a substantial body of art objects, including the Charles Olney Collection of paintings, ivories and bronzes received in 1904.
After having compiled much needed information about museums world wide, the decision has been made to divide museums by categories. The list of museums had become too long for the average visitor to enjoy. You will notice that certain museums cover more than one time period and will therefore be included in all appropriate categories.
Museum classification categories at this point in time are rough and by no means 100% exact. Please understand that this site is under construction. (Last Modified March 30, 1995)
Museums have been divided up into the following classifications:
Classical Art Includes arts from prehistory to 19th Century. Modern Art Includes arts from the beginning of the 20th Century. Contemporary Art Inlcudes the most recent forms of art. Natural History Other Arts A special category of arts that cannot be classified in the other categories. Museums by Geographic Location Collection of resources by geograpic location.

The Kelsey Museum of Archaeology at the University of Michigan would like
to announce the availability of an experimental World Wide Web page. The
Museum is actively pursuing the implementation of network access to its
collections and offers the current documents as a step in this direction.
They are not to be considered complete but we hope that they are useful.
Materials currently on-line include selections of glass, sculpture,
coins, and wall paintings from Karanis, Egypt as well as some objects
from the Museum's galleries and collections.
