Ernst Georg Stöckl was born in Sulzburg, district of Müllheim, on April 9, 1944. He studied Business Management at Munich University from 1965 to 1970. In 1971 he entered the services of UCDD, Pretoria/South Africa, the predecessor of today's Mercedes-Benz of South Africa. From 1974 to 1977 he worked in his family's company Elektrolyse-Poligrat-Gesellschaft, Munich. On February 1977 he joined the Affiliates Management Department of Daimler-Benz AG, Stuttgart. In 1980 he returned to Pretoria to become the Board of Management member responsible for Finance, Administration, Organisation, Personnel Management and Accounting. In 1990 Stöckl was appointed President of the American heavy-duty truck manufacturer Freightliner Corporation, Portland, Oregon/USA, and its subsidiary Mercedes-Benz Truck Company. Freightliner is a wholly-owned subsidiary of Daimler-Benz AG, Stuttgart.At the beginning of 1991 Ernst G. Stöckl succeeded Heinz Dürr as President and Chief Executive Officer of AEG Aktiengesellschaft. At the same time the Supervisory Board of Daimler-Benz AG appointed him to the Board of Management.
Ernst Stöckl is Chairman of the Supervisory Board of AEG Hausgeräte, TEMIC TELEFUNKEN microelectronic GmbH, AEG Austria Ges. m.b.H. and AEG Dansk Aktieselskab, President and Chief Executive Officer of AEG Corporation, Basing Ridge, USA, President of the Administrative Board of AEG Ibérica de Electricidad S.A., and member of the Board of Directors of AEG (Pty) Ltd., Johannesburg/South Africa. He is also a member of the Executive and Presiding Committee of the Zentralverband Elektrotechnik- und Elektroindustrie e.V., the Presiding Committee of the Deutsches Verkehrsforum e.V., and the Supervisory Board of the Messe Frankfurt.
