Intel Corporation today introduced a 90-MHz Pentium(R) processor designed specifically for mobile computers. The new processor uses Intel's new Voltage Reduction Technology to promote longer battery life, coupled with the postage-stamp sized Tape Carrier Package (TCP). Over 40 manufacturers are currently supplying Pentium processor-based notebook PCs.
Selecting your PC, an interactive guide, has been revised. We have added the following sections:
- Great PC Applications and Technologies: Featuring the Application Showcase, this section contains pictures of the product boxes, example screens and selected AVI movies showing the applications in action.
- Buying a Complete System: Make sure you buy a system in which all parts play together to provide you with maximum performance. We include a handy HTML 3.0 summary table.

Intel announces availability of low-cost ProShare(TM)Personal Conferencing Video System in Japan. Intel will cooperate with major computer/telecommunications firms for marketing.
The Intel EtherExpress(TM) PRO/100 Adapter was honored with two more awards. First, Digital News & Reviews readers recently chose the PRO/100 Adapter for the 1995 Target Award. Winners will be announced in the May 8th issue. Second, Network Computing's editor's choice award also went to the PRO/100 Adapter in the May 1 review of Fast Ethernet NICs. PC Developer Support

Intended for use by system manufacturers and peripheral vendors, the 'Intel Architecture Labs' Native Signal Processing Program suggests a baseline set of system capabilities that offer scalable performance, multimedia (video, audio, animation), communications (networking, voice, fax/modem), ease of use and manageability (ease of upgrading and system and power management) while maintaining the cost-effectiveness needed for mainstream PCs.
On May 19, 1995 the WinSock Group announced the availability of the API specification for Windows Sockets 2. Winsock 2 offers transport independence so the familiar sockets interface may be used on virtually any network transport such as TCP/IP, IPX/SPX, and NetBEUI. In addition, WinSock 2 provides higher performance I/O, shared sockets, quality of service and many other features.
Intel's Developer Relations Group is now providing timely information to developers via the Multimedia and Games Developers page. This area currently contains technical and marketing information for Intel's Indeo(R) Video technology, 3D graphics, and QSound(TM)'s "virtual audio" technology. Other products and technologies will be added over time.
Developers will find white papers, updates, demos/samples, press releases, technical manuals, support services, and other information that will reduce development time and increase a developer's ability to take advantage of the Pentium(R) processor and scalability.

Embedded Design Products

Intel's Embedded Microcontroller Division has released the latest update to ApBUILDER software. ApBUILDER is like having an Intel Applications Engineer on a disk! It is a powerful tool for programming Intel's Embedded Processors. This update adds the new MCS(R)251 and MCS(R) 196NU Microcontrollers to ApBUILDERs existing controllers for the Intel(TM)386, MCS(R)51 and MCS(R) 196 Architecture devices. Intel Corporation has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with Shanghai. Under the terms of the MOU, Shanghai officials will "preferentially recommend Intel Pentium processors" as the architecture for personal computers in a broad variety of projects, and future developments. In addition, Intel will begin building a new assembly and test factory in Shanghai, scheduled to be completed in 1997.

Intel Corporation has announced it is a Corporate Partner of the 150th Anniversary Celebration of the Smithsonian Institution. In addition to financial support for the anniversary celebration, Intel will contribute its technical know-how during the two-year program, so people across the nation and the world can access the riches of the exhibition.
Intel is among four leading technological corporations to contribute the latest in its emerging technologies to help seriously ill children. The project will link seriously ill children from their hospital beds into a fully interactive community. Steven Spielberg, Chairman of the Board of the STARBRIGHT Foundation, made the announcement on May 9.
Intel has announced a donation of $1 Million to "Smart Schools" in Santa Clara, California. The donation is aimed at leveraging technology in the classroom.
