The Royal Observatory Edinburgh Visitor Centre
The Visitor Centre is situated in the original buildings at ROE and
consists of several exhibition areas, two telescopes and a gift shop.
The present exhibitions are "The Universe", which is a general astronomy
exhibition; "Reaching for the stars", describing the history and work of
the Observatory; "Interactive discovery room", containing interactive
exhibits that describe some of the science behind astronomy. The East
Tower houses the 36" Reflecting Telescope built in 1928 and used for
observations until 1980. The West tower houses the 16"/24" Schmidt
telescope which was used from 1962-1974.

(1.00pm - 9.00pm on Friday)
Individual visitors go on a self guided tour of the exhibitions, which on
average takes 1 - 2 hours. The shop stocks a wide range of items including slides, books, posters,
school packs, T-shirts and a variety of novelty items.
