Grille
The front grille looks like shining chrome-plated metal - but it is really made of the same tough ABS plastic. It won't rust. It will stand up to long years of tough road wear, and still retain its aesthetic value long after conventional chrome trim can be pit-marked and corroded.
Bumpers
Volvo bumpers are designed to resist in proportion to the strength of the impact. A minor impact will be countered by a dynamic bumper system that acts as both spring and shock absorber. In a collision, bumpers add their strength to help absorb impact before it can reach the passenger safety cage.
Trim
Trim is carefully manufactured to fit firmly and precisely into place on the body. Trim itself is made of ABS plastic or long-lasting stainless steel, not chrome. In fact, chrome as a construction material has been virtually eliminated from Volvo cars for a sound environmental reason: the chrome production process depends on toxic chemicals. Even the roof rack available on new Volvos is made of strong, maintenance-free stainless steel with a chip-resistant heat-tempered black finish.
Trim Clips
The clips that hold the trim firmly in place against the car body are made of tough ABS plastic to prevent rust and to reduce friction against metal surfaces at contact points.
