More about the Vincent Voice Library

The Voice Library catalog is in Alphachron order, which means that speakers and subject are arranged alphabetically, but that any given speaker or subject is arranged internally in the order that the utterances were made historically, starting with the first and ending with the most recent. All items in the Voice Library catalog also appear in the main public catalog of the Library.

The Voice Library a call number consists of an "M" (for master) number and a "Bd." (for band) number. The user writes these on a call slip and submits it at the Voice Library reception desk (room W435) or at the Audio-Visual Library service window.

All Voice Library materials are handled only by Library personnel. A user who wishes to take materials out of the Library can supply blank reels or cassettes and fill out a Copy Request form. Copies of non- copyrighted materials will be free of charge for research or teaching purposes.

During school terms the Voice Library is open from 8 am to 4:30 pm on weekdays. Users can reserve materials for evening and weekend listening by making arrangements in advance by telephone (355-5122) or in person.

The listener receives a set of headphones in exchange for a valid identification card indicating Library borrowing privileges and is assigned a listening booth.
