STEP databases and EXPRESS
Description
STEP/EXPRESS is a new ISO-Standard (ISO 10303). STEP stands for
"Standard for the Exchange of Product Model Data" and allows the
exchange of product data between CAx-applications. In the last years a
lot of research on Engineering Databases has been done at the chair for
database systems. Because STEP
gives new opportunities for Engineering Databases it is one of our main
research projects now.
An interesting research project has been made together with the
SIEMENS-NMA Nürnberg (Nuremberg). See
STEP feasibility study for details.
Translating EXPRESS to HTML is
another project started at the Chair for Database Systems. EXPRESS
schemas are translated into HTML Hypertext files. This allows to use
advanced hypertext browsers like Mosaic to navigate in EXPRESS schemas.
